Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha of Rawalpindi Division made a startling admission during a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today, stating, “I acknowledge accountability for the electoral malpractice in the 2024 election.”
This admission comes amidst escalating political tensions in the aftermath of the February 8 polls, with various parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), alleging electoral irregularities.
Chatha, in his resignation speech, expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that he had done a disservice to the people of Rawalpindi Division.
He openly confessed to the occurrence of “rigging” in the division and accepted full responsibility for it. Furthermore, he claimed, “We manipulated the results to turn the losers into apparent winners, often with margins exceeding 50,000 votes.” Following his admission, Chatha tendered his resignation and voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities.
